Does My Document Require Witnesses?
It may. Hint: READ YOUR DOCUMENT!
We have no way of knowing without reviewing your document. We have not memorized every document created on Earth. There IS ONE SUPER-EASY WAY to determine if your document needs witnesses: READ YOUR DOCUMENT. If you see the words “Witnessed By” or a couple of blank lines with the word “Witness” under them, it’s a safe bet that your document needs witnesses.
Sometimes a notary section will say something like “Witness this ____day of _____ blah blah blah” This doesn’t necessarily mean it needs a separate witness. Sometimes the people that create these documents like to use flowery old language. If in doubt, shoot us an email with a LEGIBLE photo of your document.
For the most part, wills, trusts, and some real estate documents will require witnesses. It all depends on who created the document and what their needs are and what laws with which they are trying to comply.
We cannot provide witnesses as that is a conflict of interest. YOU must supply witnesses and they usually cannot be related to the signer of the document or benefit from having it signed.
